The 'CCTV Camera  Ascent and Descent Device Using Access Pin and Insulation Band' developed by OTS won the IR52 Jang Young-sil Award in the 31st week of 2019.

"Closed-circuit (CC) TV Camera Ascent and Descent Device" refers to a device that up or down CCTV camera so that they can be safely maintained and repaired on the ground for preventive inspection and disaster recovery of CCTV cameras installed high elevated locations in public institutions and industrial sites.

This is why OTS has started to develop Auto-lift for maintaining and repairing CCTV cameras, as most CCTV cameras are located at high places where workers are at risk of falling accidents with long working time. The CCTV camera ascending and descending device developed by OTS consists of a 'Main body' that supports it along with a CCTV camera, and CCTV camera is attached under the Main body fixed to the wall. When maintenance and repair are needed, only CCTV camera can be lowered down, so workers do not need to go up to a high location.

During the development process, the researchers found that when external force such as wind acts when it is up and down CCTV camera from/to the Main body, the camera shakes a lot, which causes twisting and fail to return it's right position after repair, and many wires are shaken and damaged.

To solve this problem, the OTS researchers gave more flexibility by putting a 'connection pin' with a spring between the main body and the camera. Using the connection pin, there was no problem when the main body and the camera in place after maintenance and repair even if strong wind blew in the process of lowering or raising the camera.

Heo Tae-in, head of the OTS Research Institute, explained, "By installing a newly designed connection pin, it is possible to prevent distortion and wear of the connection pin by external forces such as wind, so that continuous images can be taken without loss of shot images."

Director Heo added, "We also solved the problem of lightning that can occur when lowering or raising the camera using an insulating band."
